The Advantages of having a Fire Department in Your Community
There are many advantages of having a fire department, number one being the protection of life and property.
Economic Benefits
There is also a money value that can be placed in the fire department. The average home owners insurance would increase approximately $200 with no fire protection. In a town with 300 houses with insurance, that would give the fire department a total value to its residents of approximately $60,000.00 per year.
Social Benefits
The fire department holds many social events in the town. We participate in the Canada Day Parade and celebrations, to give children a chance to see the fire truck and have fun.
We have an annual Fire Fighters Ball.
This is an event where we get the residents of the town together for supper and dance to meet the local fire department members. We have several members with awards and we get a chance to thank the town for what they have done over the past year.
We also sponsor the Santa Claus Parade on the second weekend in December. The parade begins the traditional gathering in the community of carol singing, a chance to sit on Santa's lap, and a bag of treats, all of which originated with the early Co-op Store.
The Boxing Day Dance and the New Year's Ball are two annual dances we have every second year.
They are well attended and enjoyed by many.
