Minutes of Regular Meeting August 11, 2009

Regular Meeting of August 11, 2009 was called to order by the Mayor at 7:30 pm.
Deligations
Trevor and Jeanette Wight were present to bring Council up to date with their plans for development of a 12 unit elderly care complex. Work is expected to begtin in the spring of 2010. Discussion on the various departments and agencies which will be involved in the process including the Department of Natural Resources if an area is to be severed from the farm lot. The Wights will submit an application to the Town for processing. The Wight’s left at 8:05pm.
Questions from the minutes.
It may be necessary to contact our MHA regarding continuing delays with Resource Development project, status of capital works, road paving project,
special grant in compensation for lost property tax revenues, and the government’s funding share for Oak Crescent culvert replacement.
RCMP presence in the community appears more frequent. Speeding concerns continue.

Resolved that the minutes of the Regular Meeting of July 14, 2009 be adopted as presented.
Administration
There was discussion on the office operations and the maintenance of two full time workers. Councillors expressed that there are still a lot of issues needing attention at this time and not the time to reduce hours.
Nomination Day for the upcoming General Municipal Election will be held on September 8th.
Fire Department
The fire department’s expenses for 2008 have been reviewed.

Resolved that accounts presented ($32804.35) for payment be paid as funds allow.
2. Insurance Renewal

Resolution that the Town renew its insurance with Baine Johnston Limited in the amount of $13,567.51.

Resolved that the Town support Canadian Union of Postal Workers by adopting the resolution as provided in respect to post office and rural delivery services. (copy attached to official minutes)
Western Regional Hospital Foundation - 2009 Radiothon Resolution 009-070 Alexander/Rideout
4 for, 0 opposed, carried
Resolved that the Town donate $25.00 to the Western Regional Hospital Foundation.
Deer Lake Search & Rescue The Town has already made a commitment to contribute to the organization 2009 and 2010.
Cancer Society, Relay for Life The Town has donated to Daffodil Place.
Public Works
The Department of Transportation are to be notified of the need for attention to the following:
1. Tractor trailers (from the north bound lane) entering Cormack must cross over to the exit lane from Cormack. The intersection needs widening to correct this safety concern.
2. A section of Veterans Drive needs attention to repair broken pavement edge and pot hole.
ARDAHC
1. The Tin Man (Calvin Parsons) has confirmed his quote for work to complete the air exchange system in resource centre.

Resolved that the Town accept the quote provided and confirmed by The Tin Man for installation and completion of air exchange.
2. Development Coordinator for Resource centre.

Resolved that the Town advertise the position of development coordinator for the heritage and resource centre.
